Production, Distribution, Marketing & Exhibition

Production:
The production of the Film is the coming together of all the ideas, storyboards, scripts and crews in order to make the Film. The main stage of production is Filming then cutting and putting the scenes together.
The stages of production:
Pre-Production:
the stage which all the planning takes place, the Director's idea is developed and put into concept. Scenes are shot separately and props and characters are altered into the plot of the film.
Production:
When the filming actually takes place. When all the locations, characters, props etc. have been decided in order for the filming to proceed.
Post-Production:
After the filming has been complete, therefore enabling the editor to put the film together in a sequenced and synchronized format.

Distribution:
The process of distribution is when a movie is made available for the audience, for example releasing it in the cinemas.

Marketing:
Marketing is a format of advertising to the audience in order to attract and persuade them to watch a film. There are many ways of marketing a film such as:

  • An advertisement on T.V
  • An audio advertisement on the Radio
  • A poster on a bus or Billboard
  • etc.
Exhibition:
Is when the film is publicly screened, it is screened in the cinemas and is offered to paying customers alongside refreshments (most of the time). it is the amount of screenings that not only brings revenue to a cinema but also determines which films are most likely to be blockbusters. it is said that the exhibition of a movie is the 'Retail branch of the industry'.
Production

In production, the video production/film is created and shot. More crew will be recruited at this stage, such as the property master, script supervisor, assistant directors stills photographer, picture editor, and sound editors. These are just the most common roles in film making; the production office will be free to create any unique blend of roles to suit the various responsibilities possible during the production of a film.

Distribution

This is the final stage, where the film is released to cinemas or, occasionally, to consumer media (DVD, VCD, VHS, Blu-ray) or direct download from a provider. The film is duplicated as required and distributed to cinemas for exhibition (screening). Press kits, posters, and other advertising materials are published and the film is advertised and promoted.
Film distributors usually release a film with a launch party, press releases, interviews with the press, press preview screenings, and film festival screenings. Most films have a webite. The film plays at selected cinemas and the DVD typically is released a few months later. The distribution rights for the film and DVD are also usually sold for worldwide distribution. The distributor and the production company share profits.

Marketing

  • Step 1: Cast & Crew/Industry Screenings
  • Step 2: Prepare a Press & Publicity Kit
  • Step 3: Press and Industry Promotion
  • Step 4: Festivals & Awards
  • Step 5: Get a Distributor, Agent or Self-distribute
  • Step 6: Cinema, TV, Screenings, DVD & Online
  • Step 7: Plan your next project
Exhibition

The Exhibition Department provides the final link in the film production chain, and is responsible for bringing the finished product to its audience.

Production, distribution and marketing it the film industry

Production
. In pre-production, every step of actually creating the film is carefully designed and planned
.The project leader selects a story from either a book, play, true story or another movie
. The director then works with writers to produce a synopsis
. a step outline is then needed which is 30 page outline of the story in short paragraphs.
. Next, a screenwriter writes a screenplay over a period of several months
. A film distributor may be contacted at an early stage to assess the likely market and potential financial success of the film
. finally the actual film production starts and they begin shooting

Distribution – how the film gets from the edit house to the audience
Once the film is completed it gets sent to the studio , next the studio make a licensing agreement with a distribution company an  example  of a company is Ace Films Ltd.
From then it’s the distributing company’s job to then decide how many copies of the film to make and send off. The distributors then try to pitch the movie to prospective buyers or investors that are willing to show the movie in their theatres.
From here the buyers meet and discuss terms and conditions for the leasing of the movie. The prints are then sent off to the theatres/cinemas a few weeks before so they can prepare to screen it .the cinema then shows the movies for a set number of weeks ,this is called engagement
At the end of the engagement, the theatre sends the print back to the distribution company and makes payment on the lease agreement.

Plan

Props and costumes:
Blue scarves for the sea, a toy ship (zoom in to), Pirate hats made from cardboard, wooden sticks, torn clothes

Key lines:
I'm captain Jack Sparrow
They've got Elizabeth
I don't believe in ghost stories
You best start believing in ghost stories Miss Turner ...you're in one
Barbossa: So you're going to leave me standing on some beach with not but a name and your word it's the one I need while I watch you sail away on my ship?
Jack Sparrow: No. I plan on leaving you on some beach with no name at all while you watch me sail away on MY ship and then I'll shout the name back to you. Savvy?
Barbossa: That still leaves us the problem of me standing on some beach with naught but a name and your word it's the one I need.
Jack Sparrow: Since I'm the only one here who hasn't commited mutiny, my word's the one we'll be trusting. Actaully, I should be thanking you because if you hadn't marooned me and left me to die, I'd have a share in the curse same as you. Funny little world now, isn't it?
Norrington: You are without a doubt the worst pirate I have ever heard of.
Jack: But you HAVE heard of me.
Will Turner: This is either madness or brilliance.
Jack Sparrow: It's amazing how often those two traits coinside.
Jack Sparrow: Who makes all these?
Will Turner: I do. And I practise with them... three hours a day.
Jack Sparrow: You need to get yoursef a girl, mate. Or perhaps the reason you practise three hours a day is that you've already found one and are otherwise incapable of wooing said strumpet. You're not a eunuch, are you?

Jack Sparrow: Alright then. I confess. It is my intention to commandeer one of these ships, pick up a crew in Tortuga, raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer my weasley black guts out.
Mullroy: I said no lies!
Murtogg: I think he's telling the truth...
Mullroy: If he were telling the truth, he wouldn't have told us.
Jack Sparrow: Unless, of course, he knew you wouldn't believe the truth, even if he told it to you.
Jack Sparrow: That's interesting. That's very interesting.
Will Turner: This is either madness, or brilliance.
Jack Sparrow: It's funny how often those traits coincide.
Governor Swann: So...this is the path you've chosen, is it? After all, he is a blacksmith.
Elizabeth Swann: No; he's a pirate.
Mr. Gibbs: It's bad luck to wake a man when he's sleeping.
Jack Sparrow: Ah, but fortunately I know how to counter it: The man who did the waking buys the man who was sleeping a drink; and then the man who was sleeping drinks it while listening to a proposition from the man who did the waking.
Mr. Gibbs: Aye...that'll about do it. [He gets up and Will dumps another bucket of water over his head.] BLAST! I'm already awake!!
Will: THAT was for the smell.
Jack Sparrow: Wherever we want to go, we go. That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and sails; that's what a ship needs. Not what a ship is. What the Black Pearl really is, is freedom.
Jack Sparrow: Me I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly it's the honest ones you have to watch out for, you never can predict if they're going to do something incredibly stupid.
Jack Sparrow: No! Not good! Stop! Not Good! What are you doing? You've burned the food, the shade. The rum.
Elizabeth Swann: Yes, the rum is gone.
Jack Sparrow: Why is the rum gone?
Elizabeth Swann: One, because it's a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into complete scoundrels. Two, that signal is over 1,000 feet high. The entire Royal Navy is out looking for me. Do you really think there is even the slightest chance they won't see it?
Jack Sparrow: But why is the rum gone?
Jack Sparrow: One question about your business, boy, or there's no use going: This girl... how far are you willing to go to save her?
Will Turner: I'd die for her.
Jack Sparrow: Oh good. No worries then.
Barbossa: You best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner. You're in one!
Jack Sparrow: Now you can either accept that your father was a pirate and a good man, or me I could just leave you there to drown. Your choice.

Music: someone sings theme tune, play the theme tune off someone"s phone in the background
