Production, distribution and marketing it the film industry

Production
. In pre-production, every step of actually creating the film is carefully designed and planned
.The project leader selects a story from either a book, play, true story or another movie
. The director then works with writers to produce a synopsis
. a step outline is then needed which is 30 page outline of the story in short paragraphs.
. Next, a screenwriter writes a screenplay over a period of several months
. A film distributor may be contacted at an early stage to assess the likely market and potential financial success of the film
. finally the actual film production starts and they begin shooting

Distribution – how the film gets from the edit house to the audience
Once the film is completed it gets sent to the studio , next the studio make a licensing agreement with a distribution company an  example  of a company is Ace Films Ltd.
From then it’s the distributing company’s job to then decide how many copies of the film to make and send off. The distributors then try to pitch the movie to prospective buyers or investors that are willing to show the movie in their theatres.
From here the buyers meet and discuss terms and conditions for the leasing of the movie. The prints are then sent off to the theatres/cinemas a few weeks before so they can prepare to screen it .the cinema then shows the movies for a set number of weeks ,this is called engagement
At the end of the engagement, the theatre sends the print back to the distribution company and makes payment on the lease agreement.
